Australia produced a batting masterclass in Delhi on Saturday, amassing 412 runs to equal their highest-ever women’s ODI total in the decisive third match of the series against India. Led by Beth Mooney’s career-best innings, the visitors left the hosts facing the biggest total ever conceded by their women’s team in the format.
With the series level at 1-1, Australia needed a commanding performance, and Alyssa Healy’s decision to bat first after winning the toss was justified as her side dominated from the start. Georgia Voll set the tone with a fluent 81 off 61 balls, striking 14 boundaries and sharing a 107-run stand with Ellyse Perry after Healy’s early dismissal.
Perry, ever dependable, added a steady 68 from 70 deliveries, laying the foundation for Mooney to take charge. The left-hander raced to her century in just 57 balls—the joint second-fastest for Australia in women’s ODIs alongside Meg Lanning – and went on to register 138 from 75 deliveries, decorated with 23 fours and a six. It surpassed her previous best of 133 in the format.
Mooney’s assault left India’s bowlers without answers. The spin unit that had done the job in Mullanpur earlier in the series found little help in Delhi, while the seamers were punished whenever they strayed. Australia crossed 250 before the 33rd over, with the partnership ensuring the momentum never slowed.
The final tally of 412 matched their record against Denmark at the 1997 Women’s World Cup in Mumbai, while also surpassing their previous best against India, 371/8 in Brisbane last year. For India, it marked their heaviest bowling figures in ODIs, eclipsing the earlier high of 371 runs conceded.
Facing such scoreboard pressure, India’s hopes of a maiden bilateral series win over Australia now rest on a batting effort of historic proportions. To chase down 412 against the most successful side in women’s cricket will require something never before seen.
