After dominating the early stages of the series opener, India failed to capitalize on key moments, allowing England to chase down a formidable target of 371. This defeat has intensified the pressure on the Indian side as they strive to secure their first Test series victory on English soil since 2007.

The question remains: Can India reverse their fortunes at Edgbaston? Will they draw inspiration from their previous comeback victory on home ground, where they recovered from a 28-run defeat in the Hyderabad Test last year?

Historical data presents a somber outlook for India in Birmingham. Since 1967, they have participated in eight Tests at Edgbaston, succumbing to defeat in seven. Their solitary draw occurred in 1986, during a momentous series win led by Kapil Dev.

During that drawn match, India, in pursuit of 236, encountered significant challenges, finding themselves at 105 for five. A determined, unbroken 69-run partnership between Mohammad Azharuddin and Kiran More salvaged the innings and secured a draw for the visitors.

More recently, in 2022, India squandered a prime opportunity to break their Birmingham curse. After establishing a target of 378 for England, they seemed poised for victory. However, Joe Root and Jonny Bairstow forged a remarkable 269-run partnership, guiding the hosts to a record-breaking chase.

As India prepares to compete in Birmingham once more, they are determined to overcome the setbacks of the Leeds defeat. A comeback is imperative, but history suggests that the road ahead will be arduous.
