India Women have drafted Assam batter Uma Chetry as a replacement for Yastika Bhatia in the upcoming ODI series against Australia and the World Cup at home. Yastika injured her left knee during India’s preparatory camp in Vizag and is currently under the supervision of the BCCI medical team. The team has wished her a speedy recovery.
Chetry’s inclusion once again leaves out Shafali Verma from the ODI setup. Despite making her international comeback in the recent T20I series against England, Shafali hasn’t broken into the 50-over squad. Her last ODI appearance came in October last year against New Zealand at home.
Aged 23, Chetry represents Assam in domestic cricket and made her India debut in the T20I series against South Africa in Chennai. She has featured in seven T20Is so far, scoring 37 runs at an average of 9.25, and also turned out for UP Warriorz in nine WPL matches.

India take on Australia in a three-match ODI series on September 14, 17, and 20. Their World Cup campaign begins on September 30 against Sri Lanka, followed by a marquee clash with Pakistan on October 5 at the R Premadasa Stadium in Colombo.
India have reached the Women’s World Cup final twice — in 2005 and 2017 — but fell short on both occasions, losing to Australia and England respectively.
