Paul Pogba, the World Cup-winning midfielder, has officially rejoined professional football, signing with AS Monaco following the conclusion of his doping suspension. The French club confirmed the two-year deal on Saturday, June 28, marking a new chapter for the player.
Pogba's return comes after an 18-month ban stemming from a positive test for DHEA, a substance known to elevate testosterone levels. Initially handed a four-year suspension in February 2024, Pogba successfully appealed to the Court of Arbitration for Sport, resulting in a reduced ban. His contract with Juventus was subsequently terminated in November of the previous year.
AS Monaco released a statement expressing their enthusiasm: "AS Monaco are delighted to announce the arrival of Paul Pogba. The French World Champion has signed a two-season deal, having signed with the Principality until 30 June 2027."
Pogba initially rose to prominence with Manchester United before establishing himself as a key player for Juventus. During his time in Turin, he secured four Serie A titles. In 2016, he made a high-profile return to Manchester United for a then-world record fee of 89 million pounds.
Despite the significant investment, Pogba's second stint with the Premier League club yielded only two trophies. He eventually left on a free transfer, rejoining Juventus in 2022. Unfortunately, injuries plagued his second spell with the Italian giants, leading to his departure.
Pogba's last appearance for the French national team was in 2022. He was sidelined due to injury, missing the Qatar World Cup. AS Monaco concluded the previous Ligue 1 season in third place, trailing behind PSG and Marseille.
